How to type Indian Rupee symbol in MS-Word?

Microsoft has released an update to support the new symbol. This is necessary so that the Indian Rupee symbol is displayed correctly in MS-Word. In case you have not installed the update, here is the download link.

Method 1 : Keyboard Shortcut (Recommended)

The keyboard shortcut code is using the alt code – Alt 8377.
What you need to do is press and hold down the Alt key and type the numbers 8377 on your numeric keypad. If this method didn’t work foryou then go for the next one.

Method 2 : Unicode

The Unicode for Indian Rupee symbol is U+20B9.
Type the code 20B9 and press Alt+x (press and hold down the Alt key and then press the letter x). If this method didn’t work for you, then go for the next one.

Method 3 : Charmap

Charmap (Character Map) is a utility included in the Windows system to view the characters installed in any font, to view the alt code to type them, to copy the character itself and paste where ever necessary.
  1. In Windows Search type Charmap and open the application.
    Alternatively type charmap in Windows Run and press enter to open the application.
    You can also open it manually. It is located in the folder C:WindowsSystem32
  2. Now click on the “Advanced View” option.
  3. In the “Go to Unicode” input box type the code 20B9 and the Rupee symbol will be highlighted.
  4. Click on select and then copy to copy it to your clipboard.
  5. Now paste it where ever you want.
